What can I say, this past month (April) was the worst in years!!. Where to begin...

My beloved cat Morpheus was killed (by a car) on the 27th of the month. Last August we lost his girlfriend Erato (suspect a car as well) and we were still devastated. Now him...

My poor car was finally stolen! Joyriders broke in on the 16th (speaking about overtime... on a bank holiday!) and took it for a wild ride and what it seems a strip down and vandalism. I found it the same day (afternoot) but I'd rather haven't. It's all smashed, dashboard, instrument cluster, seats, roof and headrests (rear ones are gone!), the steering wheel kicked and cut, stereo/CD player missing. The co-drivers door panel is broken off as well. What a mess!

The insurance company called it a total loss and I am awaiting for their offer, I hope it works well. I'll update soon.

To fill the moods, there's a small mp3 (2.8Mb) for the spirit. Get it here

I just got back from holidays to Israel/Egypt/Jordan. Great time for a week. I will set a small dedicated site with pictures soon, stick around for updates and keep an eye at your emails for passwords.

Car Update:

My car is at last ready!! It tooks almost 6 weeks, 6 valves (4 inlet 2 outlet), the two sprokets, idler and parts. Damages during repair include a broken oil stick and an exhaust joint. The car feels really good, the engine noise is smooth (the exhaust is blowing and can't really hear it) and pulls like never before!!

This is a small page with a couple of pictures.

Here is the first test drive of the car (195KB MPEG4 AVI). You will need the DivX codec found on my computer page.

On a funky note, since I got to stick to the page's title (Jazz), you can download The Chicken from Nils Landgren Funk Unit live in Stockholm. A funky groove in wma format (playable by windows media player) and zipped to save space.

Try it here (45K MP3). Liked it? Get it here (2.85MB).

My 6 month old IBM 36LZX gave me bad sectors. This is a very expensive SCSI drive and with IBM backing it up with a 5 year warranty, I was a bit surprised that it broke down.

Anyway the drive was sent back RMA today and soon I'll have a replacement unit.

This whole deal brought to my attention how pleased I am with the e-tailer I bought this drive from (among other things). So I think it would be nice to compile a list of good and bad e-tailers.

I was thinking of a simple positive - negative poll. I can keep an email list of all people who took part to compile this list so that there can be a exchange of experiences directly between people if required.

Since I live in the UK, I will start with UK e-tailers. In the right hand side column I have listed e-tailers I have experience with in the UK. Please help me update this list by emailing here.

Hopefully this list with your help will prevent people from falling victims of irresponsible e-tailers. This is the only way of protesting: exposing them!!

The last part of my site is ready..... What will be the content? Well, pretty much everything else (except computers and astronomy). I think, I'll start with my interest to cars and bikes. This will include an update to the status of my car (see bellow).

The car: Mercedes 190E 2.3Lt 16V.

Unfortunatelly on the 23rd of November the timing chain snapped. As a result of this 6 valves are bent, the sprockets are all messed up, one valve guide is gone and is yet to be determined if there is any damage to the conrods. I will need to take the sump off to see what's going on there, although (being a bit optimistic) I doubt there'll be any damage there.

Even with myself working all my spare time on the car, it's taking ages to repair it. At the moment it just sits out there in the cold waiting for parts. Unfortunatelly due to the uniqueness of the engine (Cosworth head) it's difficult to find any second hand parts. All parts have to be bought new from original manufacturers (if not from Mercedes who charges a "badge royalty"). Total cost of parts as of now is about £1200 (that's almost $1650). With Christmass and all the festivities recently, savings flew out the window, so I do not see my car on the road before February....
